Feeling Dull?

Posted by nuruliman45 on July 30, 2008

It’s back-to-Campus!

Universities all over Malaysia are starting yet another semester! Hence, students are gearing back on track to continue their noble journey in education. For some students, getting back to campus feels like such a burden after a nice relaxing almost-2-month break. Then there are those who say ah! sem break or no sem break, feels the same…during sem busy, during break also busy. hrm, pity them… On the other hand, there are the minority group of students who come back to campus pumped with excitement to start a new fresh sem! (yup, this species of students are quite hard to find! 🙂 )

Well, getting back to ‘gear one’ isn’t all that easy… here are several things that can be done if you feel a little dull up in your CPU there. Even if you do feel ‘sharpened-up’ enough, it wouldn’t hurt to improve your brain power.

As students, we should definitely change a bit everyday, improve in whatever can be improved in. As them people say, ‘There is always room for improvement’…so why not improve by boosting your BRAIN POWER!!

ENJOY…

Sharpen Your Brain (adapted from Reader’s Digest January 2008 )

  • Improve your memory
  • Boost your spatial awareness
  • Crunch more numbers
  • Widen your word power

Improve you memory

Learn by heart a “to do” list of 10 or more jobs for the day that incorporates a route – it could be your stroll to the cafe, say, or the walk to your first class – and try to mentally link each job with one location: buying a newspaper at the shops, dropping off a housemate to class, calling home outside the café, etc.

Then ask yourself the following questions:

  • What task follows buying the newspaper?
  • What job precedes phoning home?
  • The second job on the list is?
  • Where on the list is sending your housemate?

The next day, come up with a new list and increase the number of items to 20 or so.

Boost your spatial awareness

Navigate your way around the house blindfold (best not done alone!). Then sit in a chair and mentally walk round your house, visualising your every move. Or put 12 objects on a tray, memorise their location, then get someone to move a few about. Guess which have moved.

Crunch more numbers

Do these exercises every day: add up in your shopping in the queue before you pay; divide up bills when they come in; estimate quantities of things you pass, such as people in a group or trees in a garden. Keeping your mind nimble and always on the move with numerical teasers will improve your mathematical sharpness.

Widen your word power

Go for as many of these as possible; learn a new word every day and use it often; make up anagrams of words. These will improve your understanding of the true meaning of words.

Turn on your TV this 15th!!!

It has been over a month since petrol prices have gone up. Within only a month’s time we have seen prices of local groceries, services, etc tagging along! Argh, the place I usually have my normal, student-standard lunch at is obligated to charge me an extra 20 cents everyday afternoon! 20 cents x 30 days = RM6.00 more expensive you know! 🙂 if this keeps up, it would be an extra RM72.00 every year just on my lunch ma.

SO…

What has the rakyat been pondering about?

  • Is the Government really doing their best in giving us Malaysians the best deal?
  • Is there actually another alternative to all this?
  • Would it hurt Malaysia to give way to another ‘caretaker’ of this country?

What better idea is there than to watch the debate between Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek and PKR’s hot shot Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Let’s hear what they have to say. PKR must have something behind their sleeves because Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seems unintimidated to face one of UMNO’s frontline leaders. May the best man win! ehem. 🙂

All set for fuel debate between Shabery and Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek is confident of doing well in his debate on the fuel price increase with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 15.

“I have always prepared my mind. Do you think it’s tough? I don’t think it’s tough at all. I’m very confident about it,” he told reporters at Parliament lobby.

On whether the debate was brought up at the Cabinet meeting yesterday, Ahmad Shabery said it wasn’t discussed, adding: “The Prime Minister has already issued a statement that it (the debate) is good.”

He said Anwar would be putting himself and his party at risk in the debate.
